Pathway for Livelihoods Initiatives-Kenya . . .

About Pathway For livelihoods Initiatives

Our Story:

Pathway for Livelihoods Initiatives –Kenya (PLIK) was born from an idea emanated from the founders’ love for the community. The co-founder Joan Omini always wanted to support the needy in the society especially the women based on the past experience she had as a young girl. She always wished and hoped that women can be given a space to express themselves as well as thrive in whatever they do, especially those who came from marginalized areas and had no one to support. Joan wanted to give hope to the women who faced domestic violence, who faced rejection, had lost hope and compromised their dignity for the sake of caring for children.

On the Other hand, Isaac the co-founder was the only learned person from his village in Turkana through the support of a church missionary, he desired to go back to his community and offer the same support in-order to help his people become literate. The two combined their desires and decided to start up an organization that will help them reach their communities.

PLIK was born in 2014 and was registered as a non-governmental organization in April 2016. PLI-K aims at alleviating poverty and transforms communities through social-economic empowerment and education and community outreach programs to marginalized and disadvantage communities.

Since the time PLIK was registered, it has operated in the areas of school retention, mentorship programs, medical camps and education sponsorship. Organized feeding programs for the communities in Lorengelup-Turkana, and for children at Victory school in Kicheko Slums, in Mavoko. Empowered 35 young women in Kiambui slums and an outreach program for women and children in Busia County.  PLIK has achieved the above through the support of likeminded friends, corporate organizations like Runplate Enterprises, PEFA Community Church, Syokimau, and Baptist church Busia and International organizations, like International Operation Kids, Halala Charities, and East Africa Children’s Hope. To date, a total of 150 youths, more than 500 children and women have benefited directly through our programs and over 1500 people have benefited indirectly.
