SUMMARY:KILELE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION:Event Description\nKILELE Mentorship program by Pathway for Livelihoods Initiatives-Kenya is a program with a global impact that promotes life skills\, mental health\, and principle of self-determination with a focus on personal\, spiritua 27th February – 25th March at PEFA community church – Syokimau.l and professional development. We strive to make a positive and lasting impact in the lives of youths both in school and Universities/colleges. \nIn partnership with PEFA community church in Syokimau\, PLI-K carried out a four week program to ex-candidates who will be joining universities and colleges later in the year. The program ran from 23rd June -25th July\, 2022. And saw nine successful participants who completed the program. \n\n\nTHE PROGRAM:\nThe mentorship program aimed at building around round skills of our participants\, it was therefore categories in 6 specific areas as follows: \n\n\n\nLife skills\nSpiritual formation\,\nCareer guidance\nCommunity services\nPersonal development skills\nICT and Entrepreneurship skills\nExcursion\n\n\n\nWith the vast network of competent professionals and experienced facilitators for the program\, PLI-K and PEFA ensured a different blend of speakers to ensure diversity in learning as well as to remove boredom from the youth.\nThe program ran three days in a week with sessions from different facilitators\, then a community service on the fourth day of every week. The purpose of the community service was to help the learners have a practical view of different needs in the community as well as equip them with skills to identify needs in their immediate community and identify a practical response to the identified needs. \n  \nTHE IMPACT:\nThe impact of the program was measured through the testimonies of the participants and their parents. The participants confirmed that the program has changed their perception in on how they reason and look at real life issues; it has opened their mind to a wide view of career choices and personal interest as well as taught them on financial discipline. From the parent side\, one of the parent reported that her child is looking for something he can do while he is awaiting to join University\, this will help him become responsible with his earnings as well as will keep him engaged to avoid idling.\nTo the community; the participants came up with a plan on how to serve their neighboring community through acts of services like telling stories to the kindergarten children. The church will have dedicated youths who will lead others to spiritual growth. \n  \n\nFUTURE PLANS:\nTowards the end of the program\, it was noted that there are ex-candidates in the same community and the neighboring ones who did not get a chance to join the first group. It was suggested that the organizing committee to roll out registration of participants for the second round to ensure more youths are given an opportunity to go through the program. Moving into the future the program will be a continuous process in partnership with PEFA Syokimau in order to reach many in Syokimau and the neighboring estates.
